Neural Therapy

At The Logan Institute for Health & Wellness in Fishers, Indiana, we use neural therapy principals to help patients whose pain is driven not only by injured tissue, but also by irritated or “stuck” nerves and autonomic nervous system patterns. Our patients typically see improvements in pain, tension, and overall function as neural therapy helps “reset” irritated nerve pathways and allows the body’s natural healing processes to work more effectively.

What is neural therapy?

Neural therapy is a gentle injection-based treatment that targets the nervous system rather than just muscles, joints, or ligaments. Small amounts of local anesthetic are injected into carefully selected areas such as scars, trigger points, or along nerve pathways. The goal is not simply to numb the area, but to interrupt abnormal signals and patterns that can keep pain, tightness, and dysfunction going long after an original injury has healed.

Neural therapy can be seen as the missing piece when they have “mystery pain,” pain that jumps around, or symptoms that don’t match what is seen on imaging, especially when traditional treatments have not provided lasting relief.

How does neural therapy work?

In neural therapy, we focus on areas that may be disrupting normal nerve function, such as old scars, focal points of tenderness, or regions with altered sensation. By gently treating these “interference fields” with targeted injections, neural therapy aims to:

  • Calm irritated nerve pathways

  • Help reset abnormal pain and stress patterns

  • Improve communication between the nervous system and the rest of the body

In some cases, changes can be felt quickly; in others, improvements build over a series of treatments as the nervous system responds and stabilizes.

How regenerative medicine actually helps your body heal

Regenerative therapies like PRF, prolotherapy, and platelet-based treatments focus on helping the tissue itself heal, supporting better blood flow, stronger ligaments and tendons, and healthier joints over time. Neural therapy works alongside these approaches by addressing the “software” of the body: the nervous system.

When nerves are irritated or stuck in a chronic stress pattern, they can:

  • Keep muscles tight and reactive

  • Amplify pain signals

  • Interfere with normal healing responses

By helping to calm and reset these patterns, neural therapy can:

  • Reduce overactive pain signaling

  • Help the body shift out of “fight-or-flight” and into a more healing-friendly state

  • Create a better environment for regenerative therapies like PRF and prolotherapy to do their work

We focus on both the structure (tissue) and the signaling (nerves) so the body has the best chance to heal rather than just cope.

Neural therapy in a Comprehensive Regenerative approach

At The Logan Institute, neural therapy is not used in isolation. Instead, we often combine neural therapy concepts with other regenerative treatments as part of a comprehensive plan. For example, we may:

  • Use PRF to strengthen tissue while using neural therapy to calm nerve irritation

  • Treat scars or old injury sites that are “feeding” pain into a nearby joint

  • Address both the mechanical problem and the nervous system’s response to that problem

Our patients see the best results when we consider all of the contributors to pain, tissue damage, instability, inflammation, and nervous system patterns, and design a custom plan that addresses them together.
