Protecting Yourself from the Flu in Indiana: Natural Ways to Boost Your Immune System

Writer: Dr. LoganDr. Logan

The flu season has hit Indiana hard this year, with 123 deaths reported so far. According to the Indiana State Department of Health's respiratory coordinator, we're still two weeks away from peak contagion. This means there are currently a lot of viruses and influenza circulating in the population.

Natural Ways to Boost Your Immune System

1. Get Adequate Sleep

  • Sleep is crucial for preventing viral infections. Aim for 8-9 hours of sleep each night, especially during the winter months.

2. Maintain Good Nutrition

  • Ensure you're getting the right nutrients. Avoid sugar and simple carbohydrates as they can weaken your immune system.

3. Reduce and Eliminate Alcohol

  • Limit alcohol consumption, especially before bedtime, to support your immune system.

4. Exercise Regularly

  • Movement and exercise boost your immune system's ability to fight infections.

Nasal and Oral Hygiene

Many viruses, including those causing the flu, enter our bodies through the nasal passages. These viruses can survive in the mucosa of the nose for up to five days. Here are some steps you can take to maintain nasal and oral hygiene:

1. Nasal Washes

  • Use products like Xlear, which contains xylitol, to bind to viruses and help eliminate them. Even simple salt water can be effective. Use a neti pot and salt water gargle twice a day—once in the morning and once at night. If you've been exposed in public, do it after that exposure.

2. Nebulizer Treatments

  • Using a nebulizer with saline solution, hydrogen peroxide, and a bit of iodine can help flush viruses out of the mucosa, destroying them and preventing further infection. View Our Nebulizer Protocol

Supplement Recommendations

If you start to show symptoms despite these preventative measures, it's essential to support your immune system with the right supplements. Here are some recommendations:

1. Mega Immune

  • This product contains a variety of ingredients to support your immune system against viral infections.

2. NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)

  • NAC supports the cilia function of the respiratory system, helping to remove debris and viruses from the respiratory tract.

3. Agrisept-L

  • This citrus seed extract, mainly from grapefruit seeds, is an excellent oral rinse. Use 15 drops two to three times a day at the onset of a sore throat.

4. Vitamin C

  • Pure Radiance Vitamin C is a food source form of vitamin C with naturally occurring antioxidants. Take three capsules a day for general immune support, and double the dose if you become ill.

5. Xlear Nasal Spray

  • This product contains xylitol, which helps bind viral particles so they can be expelled before getting absorbed into the system. Use one or two sprays in each nostril three to four times a day.

In summary, the most crucial steps for preventing the flu and other viral infections are maintaining a strong immune system and practicing good hygiene. Get plenty of sleep, eat well, exercise, and consider using the recommended supplements. Prevention is always better than cure.

Stay healthy, Indiana!
