Why Access to Personalized Thyroid Treatment Matters

Understanding Your Thyroid

T4 (thyroxine) – the inactive storage form of thyroid hormone.
T3 (triiodothyronine) – the active hormone that regulates metabolism, energy production, body temperature, heart function, brain health, digestion, and more.
Most thyroid medications prescribed today contain T4 only (levothyroxine). The body is expected to convert T4 into active T3 as needed. While this works well for many patients, some individuals continue to experience symptoms despite having "normal" laboratory values, possibly because they do not efficiently convert T4 into T3 or have unique physiological needs.
For these patients, therapies containing both T4 and T3—including Desiccated Thyroid Extract (DTE) or custom-compounded thyroid medications—may provide an important treatment option when prescribed and monitored by a qualified healthcare provider.
