Advancements in Regenerative Therapies: Transforming Orthopedics and Aesthetics

Updated: Jun 21

This past year provided many opportunities for continuing education on a variety of topics related to the practice of Functional Medicine. I attended five conferences in 2022 with a concentration on regenerative therapies applied to both orthopedics and aesthetics. I participated in the annual “hands on” Prolotherapy workshop in Phoenix, where I learned advanced injection techniques of the connective tissues in orthopedic injuries. These critical structures provide strength to all of the joints in the body and facilitate optimal movement. Supporting this connective tissue with injectable concentrated growth factors utilizing Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) or Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) facilitates the healing and repair of an injured tissue. All of the solutions are prepared from one’s own blood/serum under sterile conditions and DO NOT use stem cells derived from exogenous or outside/unknown sources.

In May, I spent time with Dr. Robert Talac, a prominent orthopedic surgeon who transformed his surgical practice to a completely non-surgical one utilizing PRP/PRF injections only. He has applied this technique to many common orthopedic injuries showing that these injuries can most often be healed with the injection of PRP/PRF, without the risk of surgery and subsequent scar tissue.

In the fall, I travelled to New Orleans to attend an Advanced Musculoskeletal Ultrasound training sponsored by a group of sports medicine radiologists from the University of Wisconsin. This training provides advanced diagnostics and therapeutic techniques for ultrasound-guided injections with PRP and PRF. We recently purchased the latest version of a Minolta Ultrasound machine, which allows for more accurate detection of soft tissue defects and precision delivery of the PRP into those structures. This technology is especially useful for shoulder injuries in the rotator cuff, bursa and a variety of joints.

The Logan Institute has been the leader in using PRP therapy to provide state of the art regenerative therapy techniques to deliver joint repair and medical aesthetics throughout the Midwest. Dr. Logan continues to expand on his clinical skills, knowledge, and expertise with specialized training and education from top leaders in the field. This therapy is offered to patients and non-patients, and highly beneficial for those who may have suffered an injury and want to avoid surgical procedures. The main conditions PRP therapy may help with include joint pain, muscle strains, rotator cuff tears, tendon ruptures, tendinitis, ligament damage and soft tissue injuries. To learn more about becoming a procedure patient please call our office at 317.598.4325 to schedule a consultation

We would also like to invite you to attend our open house on January 19, 2023 where will be demonstrating some of the new PRP and PRF techniques."
